Yoga Retreat in Tuscany, Italy - July 28 - August 5, 2010

Join us for this very special 9-day yoga holiday in beautiful Tuscany, Italy. If you have always wanted to visit Italy, or have been wanting to return, this is the perfect holiday. After our morning yoga practice, there will be plenty of time to take day-trip excursions so that you can experience the romance and charm of Italy.

The Retreat Center
We have chosen a very special place, Ebbio Retreat, an 800 year-old Tuscan villa set amidst a working organic farm and vineyard. Although set in the country, Ebbio is close enough for us to explore the surrounding areas of Florence, Sienna, the Mediterranean Sea, and the nearby Roman Hot Springs. Ebbio is in a magical setting, surrounded by an evergreen forest, nestled in the heart of an old volcano that was sacred to the Etruscans. In Ebbio, you will find the spectacular scenery blends well with the history that makes Tuscany such a unique holiday experience.

The Daily Schedule
The morning will begin with slow-to-moderate vinyasa flow, appropriate for all levels of practitioners. There will be free time to relax at the center or to take a day-trip excursion. The late-afternoon yoga session will be a combination of yin and restorative postures. Three delicious Italian-vegetarian meals will be served daily.

Accommodation
Ebbio's rustic yet refined accommodations set itself apart from other Tuscan villas. An 800 year-old classic Tuscany farmhouse has been converted into a stylish yoga retreat. The ambience of Ebbio is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Looking out one of the many windows of the different accommodations in Ebbio, you will be captivated by the undulating hills swept with thriving vineyards, olive trees and enchanting evergreen forests.

6-Week Yoga Teacher Training Intensive, Bali, Indonesia India - Sept 5 - Oct 17, 2010

Course Overview
Yoga is about transformation and freedom! The Shakti Spirit Yoga Teacher Training is designed for practitioners who love the Hatha Yoga system, including Vinyasa Yoga, and would like to learn more about integrating their practice with Ayurveda and Yoga philosophy. The training also spends considerable time learning safe alignment in more static postures, and includes the use of 'props' where appropriate.

Once a foundation in stable alignment is established we focus on conscious movement and breath, by linking the postures together into intelligent and flowing sequences (vinyasa). We also include sequences that are not Vinyasa Flow based, but are none the less intelligent in their design. The Shakti Spirit approach is also interested in the energetic aspects of the practice, such as the flow of prana in the
body, or the effects on the gunas and doshas.

We are as interested in what happens 'off the mat', as much as what happens 'on the mat'. We believe Yoga should be available for everyone, not just the super bendy. With this in mind, this course is not about training to become a contortionist, although of course we are working with the physical body, at times intensely. We are interested in working with real people, with real bodies and the real issues that they are dealing with.

The aim by the end of this training, is to have the confidence and skills to become an excellent assistant teacher, and to start teaching Yoga to beginning as well as intermediate level students (please note: teaching beginners is actually the most challenging group to teach. The skills you learn on this training will be an invaluable aid towards this aim). We hope to train you in the art of 'seeing who is in front of you', and give you skills to understand how to address this particular persons needs. As well as the skills to 'think on the spot' when dealing with the situations that arise in a public class. Of course this takes time, and much of this learning happens once you get yourself out there and start teaching.

Unique Aspects

This course has several unique aspects that you will not find in other programs, and is suitable for those practitioners who would eventually like to share their knowledge and inspiration with others, in the role of teacher. Whether or not participants choose to go on and teach, they will find this training provides a rare and wonderful opportuntity to delve deeply into their own nature.

Learning to teach Yoga well takes a long time and grows out of having a steady and dedicated practice of one's own. On this course, we focus on participants consolidating their individual practice, understanding themselves and others more thoroughly through the insights of Ayurveda and establishing a solid foundation in the areas of: alignment and adjustment skills, prop usage, pranayama, meditation, movement-related anatomy & physiology, Yogic philosophy and teaching skills such as voice and communication.
